Tuesday dawned.

Margaret Pilkington

Beacon of light
Overlooker
I felt tired and achey........I had battled fever demons all night.(and from the look of me.........I had come a very poor second)
My bed was opposite the dressing table and the requisite mirror.......my image was proper scary.......hair stood out at all angles.
I couldn't believe that hauling myself up from my bed to the bathroom could be such a strenuous affair.
Getting dressed was something else.
We were supposed to be going to Cheddar Gorge today....then on to Wells and then to the Clarks Village at Street.

Ma said we could stay at the hotel if I felt too unwell.

I really did feel poorly but was very loathe to admit such weakness.
Ma asked if she should get the reception to call out the doctor?
Aaaaaargh, Doctor? No, no, no........I don't do doctors. I told her that i was not letting any Westonian doctor on the inside of my vest....thank you very much.

We went down to Breakfast......not that I ate anything......I sat there and watched while my table companions tucked into their delicious looking full english breakfast.

I did actually try to eat half a slice of toast, but only managed one mouthful.....and it tasted horrible.....a bit like a buttered styrene tile.

We had to be on the coach for 9.30....and we were....me with my eyes shut and feeling like a royal wreck.

We got to Cheddar gorge and it was grey and overcast....the coach parked up the hill.......well, at least this meant I could put my feet on the tilters at the back and ride down the hill.......not that I did as I was unsure if I could bring the rig to a halt at the bottom.
No, we went slowly down the hill and even slower back up it.....by the time I reached the coach I was covered in little beads of icy perspiration.
I got on the coach and took two painkillers and again rested with my eyes closed
I'm sure I was a worry for ma.
We were soon all on board, and headed off
to Wells.

I do so wish I had been well enough to enjoy Wells.
It was a beautiful city.
Ma scored herself a Cornish pasty for lunch, she wanted me to try one too but I just couldn't.
I wheeled Ma slowly round the shops, and eventually left her for a few moments so that I could take a few pics. I would have liked to have spent time in the Cathedral at Wells....I would have prayed for strength, but alas there was no time for that.

Our last stop of the day was the Clarks Village in street.........this is a bit like a Cheshire Oaks style outlet........it was packed with families enjoying the half term break, there didn't seem to be much evidence of a credit crunch down there......there were folks carrying all manner of designer outlet bags.

I just bought a box of craft paper.....lovely creams and parchments, and at a very competitive price too.
I didn't push Ma around very much since we mostly sat, took in the air and watched the crowds passing by....and I tried to stop my legs from trembling visibly.
I was glad to get back to the hotel.

I got stripped off and into a very steamy shower. My dad was always of the opinion that a good hot bath could revive you when you felt poorly.
I steamed up the whole of the room, but my chest did feel easier once I had showered.
It didn't restore my appetite though.
Again my knife and fork stayed clean for the whole of the meal....just a sip of tomato and basil soup was all that I could manage.
I was in bed and asleep at 8pm.

Oh poor you, it sounds like you should have been in Ilchester instead of Wells. The only place to be, when you're not well, is in your own bed, isn't it?
