anyone know how to get a wheelchair
a friend of mine has had an accident and broke both ankles
and we thought he would be eligable as of right
wrong even though he is on benefits the social say its not
there responsibilty he was refered to a place in burnley who
says he has to pay ten pounds per day and he cannot rent short term
he needs the wheelchair for six weeks this is classed as short term
in their eyes
does anybody know anything to the contrary
just want to know who to go to :o

Has he tried Occupational Therapy? They were the ones who sorted Ian out with things he needed. Could be worth giving them a call 358008.

It might be worth asking if any AccyWebbers have one they no longer have need of.
much appreciated willow but surely he must be entitled
after working for the most part of his life and paying his dues and demands
sorry thats another grievance :(

There was one in the Sense shop in Accy on Sunday. Don't know if it's still there. Going for 10-15 squid.

Try the Red Cross. They used to hire wheelchairs and only asked for a donation.

I’m just mulling over why this person has been sent home from hospital with two broken ankles without a means of support. Would they do that ? Maybe they gave him crutches having deemed the person adequately mobile. I would have thought that the Physiotherapy Department would have been the ones to sort this out initially. Maybe they have denied a wheelchair because it would be a hindrance to the healing process. Sorry if that comes over as a bit of a rant beechy , just think I’d be making a few angry phone calls if I was your friend, it doesn’t seem at all fair.

Beechy sorry to say that St John Ambulance no longer loan out wheelchairs due to H&S and insurance restrictions, not sure about Red Cross but they too have to comply with same H&S regs., As a suggestion contact the persons GP and see if they can get one sent from Central Loan Stores, as I always known it as, but think it now called Community Loans or something on them lines.

thank you all we have got a wheelchair for the time being
the gripe was and is
why be sent home without one (he couldnt walk on crutches)
and why does social services not provide a service to provide one
thank you for your input and concern :o
